Five white wines up to 1200 dinars for the terrace in July
Specific bottles with name, year and price — all under 1200 dinars, all fresh enough to withstand +35 on the terrace.
A bottle taken out of the refrigerator at +35 loses its condition in seven minutes. It lasts until the sweat on the glass becomes a lukewarm puddle, until the wine in the glass goes from 8 to 14 degrees and starts to smell of alcohol instead of fruit. The solution is not a more expensive label, but the right choice for that temperature — a wine with an acidic backbone, lower alcohol content and prices that don't hurt when you drink it by the liter.
We collected five bottles that the editorial office keeps in the fridge during the summer. They are all below1200 dinarson the shelves of larger markets and wine shops, they all withstand the heat without disintegrating in half a glass. There is no abstraction about "homegrown peas" — these are the names you look for on the label.

Vršac Italian Rieslingis a workhorse: neutral, sharp acidity, with a barely perceptible note of green apple. It's not for thinking, it's for the second and third glass without getting tired.Vinum Grasacfrom Sremski Karlovac has more salt and almonds in the middle — it's better with salty food than alone. If you like a wider, softer structure,Ruby Chardonnaywithout barricades it produces peach fruit at a low price; keep it cooler because it gets fat quickly when it's warm.
The two bottles at the top of the list deserve attention.Kovacevic Rieslingis the most reliable Fruškogorsk white in this range — floral nose, fat-cutting acid, enough length not to be boring. ABotunjac Tamjanikais a trump card for guests who "don't like white": an explosion of nutmeg, and dry on the palate, which always confuses in a good way. Why temperature decides instead of price
More aromatic wines (tamjanika) are served a little warmer, around 11 °C, because the cold suffocates their nose. He keeps neutral Rieslings at 8–9 °C — at that temperature, the acid acts as a refresher, and the disadvantage of the cheaper wine is not noticed. A practical rule from our terrace: the bottle goes in the fridge the day before, and it arrives at the table in a thermal bag or a container with ice and water, never just on ice.
Don't overdo it in the other direction. Ice wine has no smell — if the first sip seems "off" to you, wait three minutes for it to open. The same logic applies tosummer rosé bottles, and if grilled fish goes well with wine, take a lookwhich white varieties go best with barbecue.
Five bottles, five characters, all under twelve hundred. The difference between a good afternoon on the patio and a bad one isn't how much you gave — it's whether you got the bottle out in time and put it back in the ice before the heat arrived first.
