Smoothie before departure: market at seven, steering wheel at nine

The blender works for a minute, a bag from the market costs 400 dinars, and the stomach remains light until the first break. This is how you drink Friday morning before the trip.

The market at seven in the morning smells different than at noon — the peach still carries the night shade, the apricot is firm but gives in under your thumb, and the seller tells you to take the softer ones because you're going on a trip anyway. You take it. Half an hour later, the blender has been running for exactly one minute, the glass is full, and the car is already filled with fuel and water. That's the whole ritual:fruit that is ripe today, not yesterday in the cold storage, and a drink that doesn't leave you feeling like bricks in your stomach after a hundred kilometers.

The mistake that everyone makes before a long trip is a heavy breakfast — eggs, sausage, burek. All that requires blood in your stomach just when you need it in your head, behind the wheel, at +34 in the cabin while the air conditioning is just catching up. A smoothie does both: hydration and sugar that the body uses immediately, without an hour of digestion.

A ratio that can't be missed: two-thirds fruit, one-third liquid

Forget recipes with ten ingredients. A good summer smoothie is math, not inspiration. Fill the glass so thattwo thirds be fruit, one third cold liquid— water, kefir, yogurt or almond milk, optional. One frozen banana adds creaminess without ice diluting the flavor; if you don't have it, a handful of frozen berries does the same job.

The acidity is what keeps the whole drink awake. A spoonful of lemon juice or a dollop of Greek yogurt cuts the sweetness of the peach and keeps the smoothie from being bland. We don't add sugar for the morning before the trip — market peaches in July have enough of it. If absolutely necessary, a teaspoon of honey, and only if the fruit is sour.

Friday morning, in practice

Wash and chop the fruit last night, put it in the freezer in a zip-top bag. In the morning, you just pour it into a blender, add liquid and grind for 45-60 seconds — just enough to make it smooth, not so much that it gets hot from the knife. You pour it into a thermos cup with a lid, because a smoothie left open for half an hour stratifies and oxidizes; cover and keep cool until the first break.

The mistake that everyone makes before a long trip is a heavy breakfast — eggs, sausage, burek.

The watermelon-mint version is a special story for the heat: almost zero fat, almost only water and sugar, and is drunk as a refreshment rather than a meal. If you like something fuller before your trip, stick to peaches and kefir. It goes with the same logic as the codebreakfast for 1400 km— easy, cool, no fat that slows you down.

For those who can't live without caffeine, a smoothie is no substitute for a morning cup. Have an espresso orice frappebefore departure, then smoothie in a glass for the first break. And if the market falls on a Sunday instead of a Friday, the same fruit goes in the bagBalkan breakfast from the terrace— a fig and a peach don't clash either in a glass or on a plate.

What not to put

There is no place for protein powders and legumes before four hours of driving — they bloat. Not many fibrous fruits (celery, too many apples) because it slows down the emptying of the stomach. And don't overdo it: half a liter is enough, a full liter makes you stop before you reach the highway.

Questions & answers

short and to the point
Is a smoothie a sufficient breakfast before a long journey?
For the first 2–3 hours of driving, it is — it provides sugar and hydration without weight. For a longer trip, supplement it with a banana or a handful of almonds at the first break.
How long does a smoothie last in a thermos?
Covered and chilled for about an hour without layering. Open and exposed to sunlight, it oxidizes and changes color in 20-30 minutes.
What fruit is best for a summer smoothie without secker?
Ripe market peaches and apricots have enough sugar. A banana adds creaminess, and a spoonful of lemon or yogurt cuts the sweetness so it's not bland.
